Palestine: UAWC denounces the continuous attacks on Palestinian fisherfolks by naval forces of the Israeli Occupation
Union of Agricultural Work Committees and Palestinian Peasants Movement denounced the continuous attacks of Israeli Occupation Naval forces against the Palestinian fishermen while fishing within the allowed fishing zone. The latest of such attacks took place on Sunday (26 August), when the Israeli Navy pursued and chased fishing boats in the northern area, firing at them, arresting two fisherfolks – Orans Sheriff Sultan 23 years old and Hassan Mahmoud Sultan 23 years – and confiscating their boat.
UAWC reports show an increase in the attacks against Palestinian fishermen by Israeli Occupation.
In August 2018 alone 7 fisherfolks were injured, 11 arrested and 4 boats were confiscated with fishing tools.
We in the Union of Agricultural Work Committees and the Palestinian Peasants Movement condemn, in the strongest of terms, the occupation’s continuous violations of the Rights of Palestinian fisherfolks thereby depriving them of the of their right to work and access the sources of livelihood.
We call on the international community to:
– Work to stop all Israeli Occupation Naval attacks against fisherfolks
– Pressure on the Israeli Occupation for the release of all detained fisherfolks and the return of their confiscated boats.
– Denounce and condemn the violations committed by the Israeli Occupation Naval against the fisherfolks.
– Work to end the maritime siege and open the sea to fisherfolks to practice their work without fear or intimidation.
