La Via Campesina’s Diversity Articulation Meets in Thailand | A Short Report

28 April 20256 May 2025

Without diversities, there is no revolution!

Between April 24 and 29, peasant representatives from Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Europe are gathering in Nakhon Nayok, Thailand, to take a firm step in consolidating the new Articulation of Diversities within La Via Campesina. This space is a collective cry for a dignified life, for equity, and for the recognition of trans, non-binary and gender-diverse peoples as indispensable political subjects in the construction of a free and diverse world and in building food sovereignty.

The host organization—the Assembly of the Poor in Thailand—welcomed the members of the Articulation with warmth, strength, and commitment. During the opening session, participants shared the history of this Articulation, born from the heart of the peasant movement, with a firm conviction that the struggles for recognition, justice, and life are not separate from, but central to, the broader struggle for food sovereignty.

During the first days, participants delved into the roots of the systems that oppress us: capitalism, patriarchy, heterosexism, and racism—understanding that these structures cannot be confronted in isolation. Members also received training on peasant and popular feminism and acknowledged the challenges involved in truly including diversities. The sessions also shared tools of resistance, such as the Declaration of Peasant Rights, which strengthen our collective political action—an instrument woven together by La Via Campesina.

The meeting of the Articulation serves as a space of resistance and a gathering of bodies, memories, and territories in struggle. Members are committed to promoting work with and on diversities at all levels of the movement, to strengthening internal coordination and engagement with allies, and above all, to outlining strategies that lead us decisively toward a world without violence—where all can live in freedom and dignity.

Participants reaffirm, once again, that diversities are the heart of food sovereignty in all territories, declaring: “Without us, without our struggles, without our voices, no revolution is possible.”

What is being built is more than an articulation—it is a living movement, irreverent and committed to the radical transformation of the world. The struggle continues—and diversifies! With love and many colors!
