“Who is worthy of the Right to Food?” Powerful speech calls out patriarchy-at-play at the CFS Gender Negotiations
This week in Rome, Deirdre “Dee” Woods, from Landworkers Alliance UK, La Via Campesina and CSIPM Coordination Committee, delivered a powerful statement that questioned representatives of FAO Member States on their resistance to recognizing diversity and intersectionality to achieve food security. Her speech was part of the many presentations that peasant and civil society delegates made during the third round of negotiations at the UN World Committee on Food Security (CFS) regarding Gender Equality and Women’s and Girls’ Empowerment in the context of Food Security and Nutrition.
