VIDEO: “We are going to till and study!” | 1st International Women’s School of La Via Campesina

It is with great conviction that we, the women of La Via Campesina, are paving the way for popular peasant feminism. We are building food sovereignty to fight against the multiple crises confronting the world today, including the violence against women.

As part of this collective construction, from the 8-14 March 2023, the women of La Via Campesina gathered in Maputo Mozambique to host and attend the 1st International Women’s School of La Via Campesina. This school had enormous political importance, with about 60 women from 39 countries of Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas and the ArNA regions.

The school provided a space for collective political debate on how to organise peasant women in the territories, how to celebrate our victories, how to increase their participation and leadership within our global movement, and how to construct popular peasant feminism as a tool to advance our collective rights.

“We are the women who defend our territories. We plant, and we promote the construction of Food Sovereignty in our day-to-day activities. Surely we will leave here much stronger to continue sowing resistance in all our countries and continents”.
