Union of Agricultural Work Committees’ Statement on the occasion of March 8th – International Women’s Day

(Ramallah, March 8, 2016) Today the world celebrates the International Women’s Day. The Union of Agricultural Work Committees would like to extend its gratitude to all liberals and progressives in the world, and would like to confirm its profound faith in the principle of emancipation of women around the world, as well as the achievement of full equality between women and men. We believe that the liberation of any society can only be achieved by assuring equal participation of all life’s sectors by both sexes.

We render our special tribute to the brave Palestinian woman for her steadfastness and insistence on the continuation to gain all her rights. A special greeting for her and for her constant sacrifices in our struggle against the most violent occupation in the World. A special greeting for her unique sacrifices during the current popular revolution.

The UAWC would like to confirm that the principle of equality between women and men is at the top of its principles. Since its inception in 1986, the UAWC has worked against the practice of discrimination against women in our society, in order to achieve true equality between men and women since our society does not recognize this fundamental practice in our laws. Therefore, we believe that no liberation or development will be achieved under this inequality.

We, at the Union of Agricultural Work Committees, are committed to The Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), which came into force on the third of September 1981, and assured the prohibition of all forms of discrimination against women and their ability to enjoy all economic, social, cultural, civil and political rights.

Based on our commitment, we confirm women’s rights of equal employment opportunities, and their rights to get benefited from all services as equal payment. As well as, we reject any discrimination against women because of marriage or maternity. We also would like to confirm that we pay a special attention to the problems that rural women face and to the important role they play in the economic sector of the community.

In the International Women Day, we would like to send our greetings all male and female martyrs, our living memories. Our greetings also for all male and female detainees; our greetings as well for all martyrs’ mothers and sisters, our inspiration.

Greetings to all Worlds’ free people, women and men, who are fighting against discrimination and inequality all across the world…

A special greeting for the brave women who are fighting tyranny and oppression wherever their resources.

A special greeting for the brave Palestinian women, the guard of our survival.

A special greeting for all wives, daughters, sisters, colleagues in their anniversary.

And together to defeat the occupation and build to build our freedom, in an equal society.

Wishing a very happy women’s day
