Puerto Rico honoring the 17th of April Day of Peasant Struggle

The different activities are being held by different organizations throughout the island which include:
SOCLA (Sociedad Cientifica Latinoamericana de Agroecologia) Capitulo Puerto Rico, SembrArtePT, el Frente Socialista (FS) de PR, la Universidad de Puerto Rico en Utuado-Colegio Regional de la Montaña (CoRMo), Agricultores Unidos del Centro (AUC), y Casa Pueblo-Adjuntas

From 9-11am on the 17th UPR-Utuado (2nd Floor of Library, please note, NOT in El Bohio as the flyer states)
There will be a conference on Agroecosystems whose theme is the importance of farmers as the central axis of our ecosystems.
The conference will showcase local farmers, experts in fair and organic production, a video on food sovereignty in Puerto Rico, and will kick off with a history/explanation of the day of peasant struggle.

The rest of the day SembrArte PT (a Worker Owned Corporation)  will be hosting people in Casa Jibara (in the Caguas Botanical and Cultural Garden).
Their goal is to reach, teach and raise awareness among the largest number of people about the importance of sustainable agriculture, maintaining and reintegrating local farmer knowledge, farmers rights and ethnobotany healing traditions back into our society and agricultural practices.

After the conferences in Utuado and Caguas, the activities continue in Casa Pueblo-Adjuntas the next day celebrating their 29th anniversary as a leading grassroots organization that fought against mining in forest and agricultural lands in the center of the island and honoring the day of peasant struggle.  The anniversary includes a farmer’s market in which you meet  the producer directly and many other activities documentaries on the importance of grassroots action and community empowerment.
