Alto al fuego n°6 : Follow-up of the Peace Accords in Colombia
VI edition of the newsletter “Alto al Fuego” – We fight for peace in Colombia
Bagnolet, May 17, 2022 – La Via Campesina shares this newsletter on Colombia, with the aim of providing information update on the implementation of the Peace Agreement signed in 2016. In this sixth edition, we highlight the worsening humanitarian and economic crisis, the persecution of the social movement, the criminalization of rural children and poor people in Colombia. The targeted killings of peasants, indigenous and afro-descendants continues unabated. Two historical leaders, Teófilo Acuña and Jorge Tafur, members of the National Agrarian Coordination – CNA, were assassinated at the end of February. With these murders, the number of social leaders killed in 2022 stands at 57. The different initiatives by social movements to alleviate the on-going security crisis in Colombia are highlighted. The movements continue to defend life, land, and territory using humanitarian agreements as mechanisms to mitigate human rights violation and foster peaceful dialogue among the different actors.
