Event Announcement: Public Webinar on Peasants Rights Declaration (UNDROP) to be held on 06 May 14h30 CEST

2 May 20252 May 2025

Since its creation, the website “Defending Peasants’ Rights. Platform of Rural Struggles in Action!” has organized an annual webinar open to the general public. The aim of these webinars is not only to inform the broader public about the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Peasants and Other People Working in Rural Areas (UNDROP), but also to strengthen the fight of rural movements by creating spaces for exchange and discussion.

This year, the public webinar will focus on UNDROP rights holders and their fight for just and sustainable food systems.

  • Where? Online. Link: click here for the Zoom link
  • When? Tuesday, May 6, 2025, 2.30pm CEST (Check your local time here)

The very existence of UNDROP is based on the need to recognize and include rural constituencies in all their diversity. The Declaration came into being by bringing together those who work to feed people while preserving the land, the ocean and other natural resources, and above all, those who continue to do so in the face of a predatory agro-industrial system. The struggles that led to UNDROP’s adoption continue and remain collective.

‘Defending Peasants’ Rights. Platform of Rural Struggles in Action‘ aims to present and promote UNDROP as a comprehensive multifaceted instrument so that it can only be truly understood and effectively implemented when taken as a whole, starting with acknowledging who is entitled to the rights enshrined in UNDROP. Both for the people concerned, who may not always recognize themselves in it, but also for the general public and professionals, who sometimes don’t understand the full scope of the Declaration.

The main goal of this webinar is to showcase and bring visibility to all the rights holders, their organizations and their struggles for sustainable and just food systems.

Objectives:

  • Inform the public about UNDROP and its rights holders
  • Share the points of view of all rights holders on their struggles for just and sustainable food systems and the realization of their rights
  • Strengthen collaboration between all rights holders’ organizations
  • Enhance engagement with the United Nations Working Group on UNDROP
