Podcast: La Via Campesina’s News Wrap | Season IV – Episode #1

The new season of La Via Campesina’s news podcast has arrived! From now on, we will release one episode every quarter, featuring news and updates on peasant struggles around the world.
In this first edition of 2025, that covers news from January to March this year, you’ll hear how La Via Campesina has responded to worsening global crises, including the collapse of a brief ceasefire in Gaza, new offensives by the Israeli government, and the sabotage of vital infrastructure. In South America, the movement condemned atrocities committed in the Olga Benário community in Brazil and the mass displacements in Colombia. In Africa, our members denounced proxy conflicts driven by external interests and their devastating impacts—particularly on women.
There was strong solidarity with the victories of rural women in Honduras fighting for land access, as well as with labor rights mobilizations across Asia, North Africa, and Tunisia. In Europe, peasants mobilized against unfair trade and GMO deregulation, while in Canada and Japan, people stood up for local, resilient food systems. In Kenya, legal advances were made against GMOs, in stark contrast to growing threats in South Korea and Europe. Seed defense campaigns were reported in Africa and Latin America, alongside environmental training and renewed calls for agrarian reform. From Pakistan to Guatemala, rural movements continue to resist land grabbing and corporate agriculture.
