24-31 May: CLOC to organize the VI Continental School of Women

16 May 202427 May 2024

From May 24th to 31st, 2024, the VI Continental School of Women of the Latin American Coordination of Rural Organizations, CLOC-Via Campesina, will take place at the Mama Tingo Training and Capacity Building Center (Cefcamati), in the Dominican Republic.

CLOC-Via Campesina is an articulation of 84 peasant, indigenous, and Afro-descendant organizations in 18 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. It has been a vital voice in the defense of peasant rights and the construction of food sovereignty on the continent. In this school, 90 women delegates from these organizations will participate, in addition to invited delegates from La Via Campesina organizations in Canada and the United States.

This VI Continental School seeks to strengthen the organizational process of the Women’s Articulation of CLOC-Via Campesina, the debate on the construction of peasant and popular feminism, and the fight against all forms of violence and oppression.

A statement released by the movements read, “In the current political context of Latin America, we find ourselves at a crucial moment where social movements, particularly the peasant movement, play a fundamental role in the struggle for social justice, equity, and the defense of the rights of rural communities, as well as in the struggle for peace and democracy in the region. However, we recognize that there is still much to be done to ensure the full participation and representation of peasant women in this movement.”

“With conviction, we pave the way for Peasant and Popular Feminism, we build Food Sovereignty and fight against crises and violence.”
