UAWC Celebrates International Women’s Day

7 April 201522 April 2024

(Palestine, March 8, 2015) The Union of Agricultural Work Committees celebrated the International Women’s Day with the Palestinian women through organizing a photo gallery and workshop titled “Women Give without Boundaries.”

In his speech the Chairperson of UAWC’s board of directors Ali Hasouneh emphasized on the achievements of women cooperatives and their important role in strengthening the Palestinian products. Hasouneh added that the photo gallery reflects the successes of Palestinian women especially in area “c” where the occupation aims at their displacement but they refuse and resist.

The member of UAWC’s board of directors Dr. Nidaa Awwad stressed on the role of rural women in strengthening the resilience on Palestinian land in light of the escalation of confiscation of Palestinian land and the destruction of the agricultural sector process. Dr Awwad explained that Palestinian women face additional difficulties due to the social and cultural structure.

The coordinator of Beta’s women cooperative Khitam Sleman focused on the challenges that face the development of agricultural cooperatives mainly regarding the marketing process. On this aspect, UAWC’s marketing coordinator Fadi Mousa pointed out that UAWC has launched Bas Baladi outlet store for the marketing and selling of local Palestinian cooperatives’ products.

The administrative director of Khalil Sakakini Cultural Center Suheer Turjman explained the center’s role in raising the cultural awareness, including the agricultural culture. At the end of the workshop, UAWC’s board of directors and administrative team along with the women cooperatives opened the women photo gallery that focuses on women’s daily lives especially in area C.

It is important to note that the women’s day workshop is within Defending Our Rights project funded by Norwegian People’s Fund. While the photo gallery is within the Women Empowerment project funded by Grassroots International.
